Over 250 Works Trace the History of the Artist Self-Portrait in Forlì

The Museo Civico San Domenico in Forlì is hosting 'Nello specchio di Narciso. Il ritratto dell’artista', marking the twentieth edition of an exhibition series that began in 2005. Directed by Gianfranco Brunelli and curated by Paola Refice, Cristina Acidini, Fernando Mazzocca, and Francesco Parisi, this exhibition showcases 250 pieces spanning from antiquity to contemporary times, including frescoes, masks, manuscripts, paintings, sculptures, and engravings. Notable works include Tintoretto's 'Narcissus at the Fountain' and a tapestry from 1971 by Corrado Cagli. The exhibition examines self-portraits from the 15th century onwards, featuring artists such as Rembrandt and Canova, culminating with Canova's 'Ebe' encircled by mirrors, reflecting viewers and cautioning against narcissism.
