Over 200 Baroque events planned across Piedmont in 2020

The Piedmont region of Italy has announced 'L’essenziale è Barocco', a year-long program of over 200 events celebrating Baroque art and culture in 2020. The initiative spans figurative arts, architecture, Sacri Monti (sacred mountains), music, gardens, and food and wine, aiming to showcase the unique Baroque heritage that developed in Piedmont between the 16th and 18th centuries. Events include major exhibitions, concert series, guided tours, extraordinary site openings, workshops, and other cultural activities. The project is coordinated by VisitPiemonte, the regional tourism agency, with contributions from Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and collaborations with the City of Turin, Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude, Reggia di Venaria, FAI – Delegazione Piemonte e Valle d’Aosta, Fondazione Torino Musei, and Associazione Abbonamento Musei. Luisa Piazza, Director General of VisitPiemonte, described the program as a participatory 'symphony' of events involving about 45 public and private cultural and tourism stakeholders, designed to attract tourists and encourage locals to rediscover their heritage.
