Over 200 artists launch global program against right-wing populism
More than 200 artists and professionals from 40 countries have launched 'Hands Off Our Revolution', a program of exhibitions and projects worldwide aimed at critically addressing the rise of right-wing populism in the US, Europe, and beyond. The initiative responds to the 2016 political shocks including Brexit, Donald Trump's election, and the attempted 'Frexit' in France. The project begins in March with a US exhibition, details of which remain secret. Notable participants include Laurie Anderson, Olafur Eliasson, William Kentridge, Anish Kapoor, Emily Jacir, Mark Wallinger, and Wolfgang Tillmans. Italy has only one supporter: artist Danilo Correale. The manifesto states: 'We belong to a compact global front that affirms and reiterates the radical nature of art. Our role calls us to the duty of re-imagining and re-inventing social relations threatened by the power of populist right.'
