Outsider Art Fair 2019 Closes at Metropolitan Pavilion

The Outsider Art Fair closed on January 20, 2019, at the Metropolitan Pavilion on 125 West 18th Street in New York. The annual event, held from January 17 to 20, featured 66 galleries showcasing works by eccentric, disabled, and marginalized artists, including autodidacts like Jim Carrey with his political drawings. Highlights included Japanese textiles by Atsuko Barouh, city models by Kambel Smith, clay sculptures by Jordan MacLachlan, wool sculptures from Fountain House Gallery, and a sticker wall by street photographer Rena Grey. Italian artists were represented at the stand of James Barron Gallery (Connecticut), featuring Vera Girivi, Elisabetta Zangrandi, and Sidival Fila, a Brazilian Franciscan monk living in Rome. The fair, founded in 1993 in New York and acquired by dealer Andrew Edlin in 2013, has expanded to Paris. The next edition will be on October 17 at Atelier Richelieu in France.
