Outset Contemporary Art Fund Founders Expand Global Influence Through Innovative Patronage

Yana Peel and Candida Gertler established the Outset Contemporary Art Fund in 2003, introducing a more engaging approach to arts patronage. The fund initially focused on acquiring works from the Frieze Art Fair for Tate Modern. Its membership comprises a diverse group of individuals who fund activities like studio tours, private receptions, and international trips. Outset has significantly expanded its operations, establishing branches in Munich and Israel. It has provided production funds and partially financed the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. The fund has donated to numerous London institutions, including funding the South London Gallery's new extension this year. Gertler serves on the Tate International Council, a role also held by Peel. Additionally, Peel advises the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, acts as a trustee for the Moscow Biennale and Hong Kong's Para/Site art space, and co-founded Intelligence Squared Asia.
