OUTPOST Gallery's Hybrid Model Defines Norwich's Art Scene

institutional · 2026-04-20

Established in 2004 following the East International biennial, OUTPOST gallery in Norwich is a nonprofit organization run by artists that integrates both alternative and mainstream art. It follows a rolling committee structure inspired by Glasgow's Transmission Gallery and was awarded £117,000 by Arts Council England in 2012. The gallery, situated in a repurposed skittle alley near Norwich Cathedral, is the sole regular exhibition space in the region, presenting 11 exhibitions each year, primarily solo showcases, from the 1st to the 21st of every month. OUTPOST champions emerging talent and has exhibited works by Ciara Phillips, with plans for a Peggy Franck exhibition in February 2013. It also partners with Wysing Arts Centre and Firstsite in Colchester.
