Outdoor Festival 2018 Moves to Mattatoio Testaccio with Heritage Theme

The eighth edition of the Outdoor Festival in Rome has relocated to the Mattatoio Testaccio, marking a shift from its previous treasure-hunt format across multiple city locations. The festival's theme is Heritage, exploring how popular culture is shaped by international influences, mass media, and social networks. The art section, curated by Antonella di Lullo and Christian Omodeo, is housed in Padiglione 9b and features a labyrinthine layout designed by the Roman architecture collective Orizzontale. Visitors can choose their own path through four thematic itineraries: Disobedience, Lighspeed, Retromania, and Total Recall. The festival also includes sections on Music, Television, Conferences, and a contemporary makers' market. Outdoor Festival was founded in 2010 by nufactory, initially focusing on street art interventions in unfinished residential complexes in the Ostiense district. In 2014, it reactivated disused spaces like the Ex Dogana Ferroviaria, and in 2015, it helped reclaim the former Caserma Guido Reni area, a proposed site for Rome's Museum of Science.
