OttoFinestre: New Art Space Opens in Private Home in Turin
A new art space called OttoFinestre has opened in Turin, located in a private home rather than a traditional gallery or museum. Situated in the San Salvario district, the space is housed in the Casa degli Specchi, a building designed by architect Elio Luzi in 1960. OttoFinestre spans 250 square meters with eight windows facing two streets. The space is run by a collective of young artists including Lorenzo Pingitore and Alessandro Vasapolli, along with homeowner Angelo Rasero, an art enthusiast. It opens on March 30 with a double solo exhibition of photographers Pingitore and Vasapolli, curated by Valerio Consonni and titled "Fuoco Fuori Fuoco." Pingitore previously exhibited in CAMERA's project room. The collective aims to create a cultural hub connecting artists with galleries and curators, operating outside commercial logic. The program runs through January, featuring exhibitions by Andrea Barzaghi (an artist from Société Interludio), Michele Guaschino (a sculptor experienced in cinematic makeup who creates Maurizio Cattelan's self-portraits), and Alessandro Albert. Events include book presentations, concerts, and a gourmet dinner by a Masterchef chef for invited guests. The space is self-financed by participating artists, with future plans to issue open calls and partner with galleries in Rome and Paris, modeled after the EU platform Futures, which CAMERA also joins. OttoFinestre aims to engage with existing events like Artissima and Open House Torino.
