Otto Steinert and Willi Moegle in Dialogue at Villa Massimo
The Accademia Tedesca Roma – Villa Massimo presents a dual exhibition of photographers Otto Steinert (Saarbrücken, 1915 – Essen, 1978) and Willi Moegle (Esslingen am Neckar, 1897 – Leinfelden-Echtendingen, 1989), curated by Ute Eskildsen as the third installment of the multi-year project Fotografia. Despite their apparent differences—Steinert known for experimental, avant-garde self-reflection, and Moegle for a reverence for concrete reality—the pairing succeeds. The selected works, mostly from the 1950s, share a sculptural focus on the object itself, evoking existentialist moods and a post-war awakening atmosphere. The exhibition runs until December 2, 2016, at Villa Massimo in Rome.
