Otros sonidos, otros paisajes: Chilean sound art at MACRO Rome

The exhibition 'Otros sonidos, otros paisajes' at MACRO in Rome presents works by five Chilean artists—Claudia González Godoy, Fernando Godoy, Rainer Krause, Sebastián Jatz Rawicz, and Alejandra Perez Nuñez—who use sound to evoke landscapes and explore Chile's history, culture, and ecology. Claudia González Godoy's 'Hidroscopia' channels water samples from the Mapocho River through a wooden and electronic circuit, examining natural and artificial transformations. Fernando Godoy's 'Atacama 22º 54′ 24″ S, 68º 12′ 25″W' captures sounds from abandoned sites in the Atacama Desert, including a salt mine and train rails. Sebastián Jatz's 'Conferencia de Pájaros Cantores' references Violeta Parra and uses aeolian harp principles. Rainer Krause's 'Lenguas locales' plays the voice of Cristina Calderón, the last speaker of the Yágan language. Alejandra Perez Nuñez's interactive 'Antartica 1961-1996' maps the Antarctic Peninsula's soundscape, highlighting military and nuclear activities until 1996.
