Otranto in Luce: Video Mapping Transforms Historic Center into Immersive Art Path

From September 11 to 27, 2026, the historic center of Otranto, Italy, will be transformed into an open-air stage for 'Otranto in Luce', a free, diffuse art project combining light installations, video mapping, and monumental projections. The event is promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture under the Strategic Plan 'Grandi Progetti Beni culturali' and organized by the Direzione regionale Musei nazionali Puglia in collaboration with the Comune di Otranto. Each evening from 21:00 to 24:00, visitors can follow a luminous itinerary through Porta Terra, the Cathedral, the former Church of the Immacolata, the Castle, Porta a Mare, and the Fossati. The artistic director is Bruno Seillier, known for 'Éternelle Notre-Dame' and the spectacle for the 130th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower. Seillier describes the project as a 'symbolic circle' where light reveals the history embedded in stone, culminating at Porta a Mare and the Fossati, which hold the 'true light of Otranto' and the memory of the Martyrs of Otranto. The event aims to offer a new perspective on the city's layered heritage, from the Greeks to the Normans, Byzantium, and Aragon. Seillier emphasizes that unlike his previous work on iconic monuments like the Eiffel Tower, Otranto presents a unique challenge due to its deep connection to Mediterranean civilizations and faith.
