Otobong Nkanga Awarded Belgian Art Prize 2017 at BOZAR Ceremony

Otobong Nkanga secured the Belgian Art Prize on April 19, receiving €25,000 to advance her artistic practice. The award ceremony took place at Brussels' BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts. An international jury including Beatrix Ruf from Amsterdam's Stedelijk Museum, Hans Ulrich Obrist of London's Serpentine Galleries, and Documenta 14 cocurator Dieter Roelstraete selected Nkanga. Also on the jury were art collector Mimi Dusselier and Estelle Francès Lasserre, director of the Fondation d’Entreprise Francès. Maarten Vanden Eynde was chosen as the public's favorite, earning €10,000. Works by Nkanga and Vanden Eynde are displayed alongside shortlisted artists Edith Dekyndt and the duo Simona Denicolai & Ivo Provoost. This exhibition at BOZAR runs through May 28. The biennial prize aims to support career development for artists.
