Othoniel's 260 Works Across 10 Avignon Sites in 'Cosmos or the Ghosts of Love'
French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel presents 260 works across ten iconic Avignon sites in the exhibition 'OTHONIEL COSMOS ou les Fantômes de l’Amour' (Othoniel Cosmos or the Ghosts of Love), opened June 28, 2025, and running until January 4, 2026. The show celebrates the 25th anniversary of Avignon's designation as European Capital of Culture and the 30th anniversary of its UNESCO World Heritage listing. Works include paintings, sculptures, glass, fountains, and astrolabes distributed at the Palais des Papes, Pont d'Avignon, Musée du Petit Palais-Louvre, Musée Calvet, Musée Requien, Musée Lapidaire, Chapelle Sainte-Claire, Bains Pommer, Collection Lambert, and Place du Palais. The exhibition centers on passionate love and will host a performance titled 'Midnight Souls' on August 1 and 2 in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palais des Papes, featuring étoile Hugo Marchand and ballerina Caroline Osmont of the Paris Opera, Juha Marsalo of the Carolyn Carlson Company, choreographed by Carolyn Carlson. Dancers will perform on Othoniel's work made of over 10,000 glass bricks. A concurrent show, 'Polvere di Stelle' (Stardust), at La Malmaison art center in Cannes until January 6, 2026, displays 91 works, most created for the venue, using gold, blue glass, and pearl elements to evoke the Mediterranean and Cannes glamour.
