Osvaldo Borsani Retrospective at Triennale Milano Curated by Norman Foster

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The largest retrospective ever dedicated to Osvaldo Borsani (1911-1985) opened at La Triennale di Milano, curated by Norman Foster and Tommaso Fantoni, the architect's grandson. The exhibition features over 300 items including furniture, unique pieces, industrial products, archival documents, original sketches, and artworks, arranged within a white cubic grid system that runs along the southeast curve of the venue. Early works from the late 1920s by Gino Maggioni are displayed, alongside a painted wooden screen by Depero from 1939. The show traces Borsani's evolution from his student days at Politecnico di Milano to the design of Villa Borsani in Varedo in 1940, and later the founding of Tecno. Iconic pieces like the D70, P40, T49, and T91 are exhibited, along with the Nomos office system designed by Norman Foster and Partners in 1986. The exhibition also includes works by artists such as Lucio Fontana, Paolo Scheggi, Fausto Melotti, Agenore Fabbri, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Gianni Bertini, and Aligi Sassu, reflecting Borsani's collaborations. A film about Borsani concludes the show.
