Ostrava's PLATO Gallery Opens in Former Bauhaus Hobbymarket
PLATO, a contemporary art institution located in Ostrava, Czech Republic, has moved into a former Bauhaus hobbymarket. This temporary venue, named "Dočasné struktury" (Temporary Structures), will function as the gallery for approximately two years while awaiting the completion of its permanent site at the old city slaughterhouse. Set to open on April 11, it will showcase "5000 m² pro umění" (5000 m² for Art), featuring the works of over 50 artists, including Adam Szymczyk, the artistic director of documenta14. Director Marek Pokorný compares the space to the Crystal Palace from the 1851 Great Exhibition. The initiative will also include artist-designed areas, a library, bistro, bookshop, garden, and a display system, along with an annual program of workshops, concerts, and educational activities for the community.
