Osservatorio Prada Opens with 'Give Me Yesterday' on Family Photography
The Osservatorio Prada in Milan has inaugurated its exhibition space with 'Give Me Yesterday', a show curated by Francesco Zanot that explores the theme of family and private photography. The exhibition features works by 14 international artists who investigate their personal universes through photographic practices. Dutch artist Melanie Bonajo documented herself crying between 2001 and 2011, creating a decade-long self-portrait series. Portuguese artist Tomé Duarte created his work in a single day in 2015 after his girlfriend left him, photographing himself in her clothes. South African artist Lebohang Kganye inserts her image into photographs from her late mother's album. American artist Leigh Ledare focuses on his mother in both official and unofficial moments. Wen Ling's daily life of his entourage became the subject of China's first photographic blog, Ziboy.com, launched in 2001. The exhibition closes with Antonio Rovaldi's 'Orizzonte in Italia', a series of hundreds of horizon images taken during two bicycle trips around Italy in 2011 and along the Sardinian coast in 2014. The Osservatorio Prada is located on the top two floors of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a 19th-century iron structure designed by Giuseppe Mengoni.
