Oslo's New National Museum to Open June 2022, Designed by Kleihues + Schuwerk
On June 11, 2022, the National Museum of Art, Design and Architecture in Oslo will officially open its doors. This museum, created by the Berlin-based firm Kleihues + Schuwerk, is set to become the largest museum complex in Scandinavia, boasting 89 exhibition halls that span over 10,000 square meters. It merges collections from four different museums, showcasing a diverse range of ancient, modern, and contemporary art, as well as architecture and design. Situated at the former Oslo West Station, it features a striking white glass-and-marble hall named 'Lyshallen' for temporary exhibits. Norwegian Minister of Culture Abid Raja highlighted its connection to both history and the future. Notable artworks include pieces by Frida Hansen and Johan Christian Dahl, with exhibition design led by Guicciardini & Magni Architetti, emphasizing visitor interaction and collaboration.
