Oskar Metsavaht's 'Divina Geometria' Returns to São Paulo with New Works

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Oskar Metsavaht presents an expanded version of his exhibition 'Divina Geometria' at the Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo (MAS-SP) until September 1st. Curated by Marc Pottier, the show includes previously unseen videos, paintings, and drawings, moving beyond its initial 2016 Rio de Janeiro focus on Christ the Redeemer. The São Paulo iteration, invited by the institution's executive director José Carlos Marçal de Barros, occupies multiple rooms with dozens of works. It features a matured body of creations, including methodically arranged abstract paintings. An opening video art installation from 2008 predates Metsavaht's increased focus on visual arts after a 2014 residency at Instituto Inhotim and his participation in the 'Made by… Feito por…' exhibition, also curated by Pottier at Cidade Matarazzo. The artist, who recently opened the OM.art gallery and studio in Rio de Janeiro, describes his work as stemming from 'physical, emotional, or spiritual experiences' exploring the man-nature-spirituality relationship. The exhibition's installation deconstructs the image of Christ across its rooms, shifting towards codes of assimilated spirituality independent of religion.
