Oscar Ouyang on Five Films Shaping His Womenswear Debut

Oscar Ouyang, a designer based in London, is set to venture into womenswear for Spring/Summer 2027, building on his reputation for detailed knitwear and menswear. In a conversation with AnOther, he highlights five films that have shaped his artistic vision and the new collection. At just 27, Ouyang completed his MA in Fashion at Central Saint Martins in 2023 and established his eponymous brand. He became part of BFC Newgen in 2025 and debuted at London Fashion Week with his Spring/Summer 2026 line. His earlier works were inspired by medieval folklore and Hayao Miyazaki's films. The upcoming womenswear will draw from live-action films featuring strong female characters, including 'Queer' (2024), 'Paprika' (2006), 'Orlando' (1992), 'Farewell My Concubine' (1993), and 'Castle in the Sky' (1986). Ouyang notes that 'Queer' influenced his understanding of queerness, while 'Paprika' connects to his passion for collecting. 'Orlando' informs the collection's fluid femininity, 'Farewell My Concubine' ties to his heritage, and 'Castle in the Sky' evokes childhood explorations. The womenswear line will debut in September at London Fashion Week.
