architecture-design · 2026-04-27

By March 2024, the historic Cartiere Burgo, located in San Mauro Torinese and crafted by Oscar Niemeyer, will transform into the Argotec Space Park, serving as the headquarters for the Italian space firm. The facility will feature 11,500 square meters of refurbished space alongside 17,000 square meters of public green areas, with a complete launch and public opening set for autumn 2024. The €25 million renovation, undertaken by Archi2 studio and Politecna Europa, aims to maintain Niemeyer's spaceship-like design. Argotec plans to manufacture 52 satellites each year, focusing on sustainability. CEO David Avino emphasized the initiative's dedication to revitalizing a local icon and fostering collaborative environments for startups and education, in partnership with the municipality of San Mauro Torinese.
