Oscar Murillo Brings 'Frequencies' to Venice's Scuola Grande della Misericordia
Oscar Murillo, the Colombian-born Turner Prize 2019 winner, will present a major exhibition at the Scuola Grande della Misericordia in Venice from September 17 to November 27, 2022. The show will feature new paintings and an interactive installation of his ongoing project 'Frequencies', initiated in 2013. This collaborative work involves students aged 10-16 from over 350 schools worldwide, who draw, write, and mark on canvases placed on their desks for six months. The resulting pieces form an archive of over 40,000 works, capturing conscious and unconscious expressions of thousands of children. Murillo's practice explores globalization, migration, and community. Concurrently, his first Italian solo exhibition 'Spirits and Gestures' is on view at Fondazione Memmo in Rome until March 20, 2022.
