Oscar Giaconia's Alchemical Exhibition at MAC Lissone

The Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Lissone presents 'Mockupaint', a solo exhibition by Milanese artist Oscar Giaconia (born 1978), curated by Stefano Raimondi. The show transforms the museum into an open construction site, designed in collaboration with architect Maria Marzia Minelli. A sound installation titled 'Kanthèlios' by Steve Piccolo creates an auditory forest. Key works include 'Calabiyau' (2018), a large sewage pipe taxidermied into an organic form; 'Parasite Soufflè' (2023); and the 'Nemat Puppet Frog' series (2024) with frames in tropicalized iron by architect Matteo Ghidoni. Other pieces such as 'Dad Head Playset' (2024) and 'Mr. O' (2020) incorporate synthetic materials like silicone, vulcanite, nylon, and neoprene. Giaconia's practice blends organic and artificial elements, using processes involving emulsions, coagulants, oxides, mercury chrome, aniline, and verdigris. The exhibition presents a labyrinth of models, mock-ups, and mannequins that can be assembled and reassembled, questioning identity and transformation. Paintings mimic still lifes but become flowering monsters in decomposition or mutation. The show is conceived as a set awaiting metamorphosis over time.
