Os Gêmeos' São Paulo Exhibition 'A Ópera da Lua' Features Immersive Installations and Melancholic Paintings

exhibition · 2026-04-20

In October 2014, the renowned twin artists from São Paulo, Os Gêmeos (Otávio and Gustavo Pandolfo), unveiled their exhibition titled 'A Ópera da Lua,' which drew significant crowds and media coverage. The exhibition comprised three immersive environments. The initial room showcased approximately thirty vibrant, cartoon-like paintings, colorful doors, wooden panels, and crystal-like sculptures, including small votive shrines and a mirrored box that transformed reflections into a signature character. The artworks featured yellow-skinned figures with anxious expressions. The second area contained a zoetropic installation with a large figure that displayed animated scenes. The final space replicated a small house, featuring a video installation of rotating heads, with a caution at the entrance about the exhibit's visually unsettling aspects.
