Os Gemeos' First European Museum Show at Berardo Collection
Os Gemeos, the Brazilian twin brothers Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo, present their first European museum exhibition 'Pra quem mora lá, o céu é lá' at the Musée Collection Berardo in Lisbon from May 17 to September 19, 2010. Curated by Eric Corne, the show transposes their signature dreamlike, naive figures from São Paulo's streets into the museum space. The exhibition is divided into two parts: the first features three large paintings facing colorful walls covered with anthropomorphic objects like musical instruments, gourds, and amplifiers, some connected to a drum kit for public use; the second part presents a checkerboard of old doors and painted wood panels, with two vertical relief houses and vintage furniture creating a sense of weightlessness. A central door opens into a small room with a single divan, where a blue lamp diffracts the visitor's reflection on mirrored partitions. The show explores themes of passage—from street to museum, from reality to imagination—through the brothers' use of spray paint, iridescent colors, and subtle gradations.
