Ortigia Sound System Festival 2019: Giorgio Moroder, Virgil Abloh in Lineup
The sixth edition of Ortigia Sound System Festival (OSS) takes place in the historic center of Syracuse, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2005. The festival, which saw over 13,000 attendees in 2018, continues to grow. Its concept, 'Sentimiento Nuevo,' is borrowed from Franco Battiato's song, representing love as immortal yet ever-changing. Headliners include Giorgio Moroder, performing for the first time in Sicily with a special set titled 'Un’estate italiana,' and Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White, as a DJ. UK label Hessle Audio brings seven hours of electronic music with founders Ben UFO, Pearson Sound, and Pangaea. Neon Indian, the chillwave band from Denton, Texas led by Alan Palomo, performs an exclusive Italian show. Other artists include Yussef Dayes, Charlotte Adigéry, Myd, Emmanuelle, and Elena Colombi. The festival's signature boat parties increase to eight this year, two per day from Thursday to Sunday aboard the Selene. DJs include Leon Vynehall (Ninja Tune), Otim Alpha and Leo P – Layeng (Nyege Nyege Tapes), Jamie Tiller (Music From Memory), and Bjørn Torske. A multimedia performance titled 'Movimento 01' is curated by Alessandro Adriani (Mannequin Records), Domenico Romeo, and Nuova Astrazione. The performance involves three media and four actors, combining music, video, and live abstract calligraphy on a black surface, lasting one hour.
