Orticolario 2019: Art and Gardens at Villa Erba

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

The 11th edition of Orticolario, a garden and art event, took place at Villa Erba in Cernobbio, Italy, on Lake Como. The theme was travel, berries, and small fruits. The event featured installations and artworks inside and outside the 19th-century villa, once home to film director Luchino Visconti. Highlights included Vittorio Peretto's 'L’Isola del tesoro' inspired by the UNESCO site Isolino Virginia, Leonardo Magatti's 'BUS Garden' on slow travel and botany, and Nicola Salvatore's 'Balene nel Salone' with whale prints on Mantero silk. Eight new garden projects competed. Swiss landscape architect Paolo Bürgi was guest of honor, receiving the 'Per un Giardinaggio Evoluto 2019' award; his recent work includes the Esplanade des Particules at CERN in Geneva. The event included cultural meetings and educational workshops. Proceeds from cultural activities supported local social projects.
