Orticolario 2018: Play and Nature at Villa Erba

The tenth edition of Orticolario, an annual cultural event dedicated to nature and its ability to convey emotion and beauty, took place from October 5 to 7, 2018, at Villa Erba in Cernobbio, Italy. The theme was 'Play is a serious thing,' exploring the concept of play in garden design and artistic installations. The featured plant was Salvia, with over 1,000 species worldwide, known for its culinary and medicinal uses. Guest of honor Roy Lancaster, vice president of the Royal Horticultural Society in London, received the 'Per un Giardinaggio Evoluto 2018' award, stating, 'Gardeners are the happiest people, because all they need is a packet of seeds and patience; the world can unfold in their hands, from a bean to a tree.' To celebrate the tenth edition, a giant inflatable art installation by Stefano Ogliari Badessi, made with Mantero silk, was placed in the central pavilion, offering an immersive experience. The event also featured a wide exhibition of plants, artistic crafts, and design installations.
