Oro d'Autore: New Jewelry Museum Opens in Arezzo

A new museum dedicated to contemporary jewelry, Oro d'Autore – Collezione di Gioielli Contemporanei, opened in May 2017 in Arezzo, housed at Palazzo Fraternita dei Laici in Piazza Grande. The collection features about 300 pieces displayed in rotation, with an initial exhibition of 80 works selected by technique. The project originated in 1988 with the exhibition "Per una collezione Orafa ad Arezzo," organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Arezzo and Centro Affari, involving Italian artist-goldsmiths, sculptors, architects, and designers. Notable participants included Bruno Munari, Andrea Branzi, and Ettore Sottsass. The 1992 edition "Oro d'Autore Omaggio a Piero" featured works inspired by Piero della Francesca's Renaissance jewelry. The museum is curated by Giuliano Centrodi and aims to foster dialogue between past and present, also displaying ancient art such as an Etruscan bronze statue of Minerva on loan from Florence until October 2017.
