ORO: A Micro-Gallery in Palermo That Fits in a Window Display

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In Palermo, a new art space called ORO has opened at Via Roma 315, occupying the former windows of a jewelry store. The project, conceived by Desideria Burgio, Elisabetta Marino, and Federico Lupo, features exhibitions visible 24/7, accessible to all passersby. The space is extremely small—just over 20 centimeters high—and deliberately avoids press releases or critical texts to let the artworks speak for themselves. The curators cite the 1950s Milanese Galleria del Naviglio as inspiration for their retro, formal communication style, using only artists' surnames in invitations. ORO's inaugural show presents works by Giandomenico Carpentieri (a blue neon sign reading "Super Blu") and Giuseppe Mistretta (a piece titled "Filanti" with Keith Haring-like graffiti). Upcoming artists include Adriano La Licata, Giovanni Scelsi, and Virginia Genta of Jooklo Duo. The concept recalls similar micro-spaces like Caveau in Siena and Edicola Notte in Rome.
