Ornaghi & Prestinari's 'Sbilenco' at Galleria Continua San Gimignano

The exhibition 'Sbilenco' by the Italian duo Ornaghi & Prestinari (Valentina Ornaghi, born 1986; Claudio Prestinari, born 1984) opened at Galleria Continua in San Gimignano, housed in the former cinema theater. The show features a long table on stage that cuts diagonally through the space, supporting domestic works. A centerpiece is 'Bedroom', a matrimonial bed inspired by Italo Calvino's story 'L'Avventura di due sposi', split by a small bookshelf dividing the alcove into two separate spaces, each with its own lamp that never lights simultaneously with the partner's. Throughout the gallery, inclined planes, precarious balances, and misaligned geometries create a playful disruption of orthogonal rigor. Works like 'Piano inclinato' (2022, wood, gold, aluminum) and 'Composizione per cinque elementi' (entirely in wood) exemplify the artists' tendency to objectify reality with subtle irony, emphasizing domestic intimacy and the poetry of simplicity. Two-dimensional works such as 'Sfiorare' (2023, plaster, pigment, gold) feature vertical paintings that almost kiss at a corner, challenging conventional alignment.
