Orlan and Michel Journiac at Maison Européenne de la Photographie
The Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris is showcasing two exhibitions featuring Orlan and Michel Journiac, which will be on display until June 18, 2017. Curated by Jérôme Neutres, the Orlan exhibition includes her early photographic pieces alongside contemporary digital alterations, focusing on her investigation into identity and the concept of bodily multiplicity. Key pieces are "Panoplie de la fille bonne à marier" (1981) and "Têtes à claques, jeu de massacre" (1977). Orlan, who was born in Saint-Etienne in 1947, introduced the term "carnal art" in 1992. Meanwhile, the Journiac exhibit, overseen by Françoise Docquiert and Pascal Hoël, examines his work through themes such as Blackmails and Rituals. Journiac (1935–1995) was pivotal in bringing Body Art to France, utilizing sacred symbols and blood-painted portraits, reflecting the revolutionary essence of France.
