Oreet Ashery wins 10th Film London Jarman Award with £10,000 prize and Channel 4 commission

Oreet Ashery has clinched the 10th Film London Jarman Award, which comes with a £10,000 cash prize and a commission for Channel 4’s Random Acts series. The awards were presented on Monday at Curzon Soho in London, where artist and filmmaker Isaac Julien honored the late Derek Jarman, after whom the award is named. Ashery stood out among a talented group of finalists, including Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Adham Faramawy, Melanie Manchot, Charlotte Prodger, and Marianna Simnett. Each of these six artists will also receive a commission for Random Acts. Meanwhile, on November 21, 2017, sound designer Chu-Li Shewring was awarded the £5,000 Jules Wright Prize for Female Creative Technician at Whitechapel Gallery.
