Opiemme's Mural Tribute to Władysław Strzemiński in Łódź

artist · 2026-05-05

In Łódź, Poland, a public art initiative titled 'Remanufacture' has been launched by Italian artist Opiemme, born in Turin in 1977, to pay tribute to avant-garde artist Władysław Strzemiński, who passed away in 1952. This project features two murals, a sidewalk intervention, and two workshops with local students. The primary mural, covering over 300 square meters, is located on a former elementary school in the Baluty district and employs a typographic font that Strzemiński created in 1930. Commissioned by the Urban Forms Foundation, the project is part of the 4 Cultures Festival, which celebrates Polish, Russian, German, and Jewish cultures. Claudio Cravero authored the presentation text, and Opiemme's restoration background informed his work, which also nods to Andrzej Wajda, who died last year, and Strzemiński's legacy at the Muzeum Sztuki in Łódź.
