Operae 2016: Independent Design Festival in Turin Calls for Designer Responsibility

The upcoming edition of Operae – Independent Design Festival, titled 'Designing the future' with subtitle 'Fai la tua scelta' (Make your choice), will take place at Palazzo Cisterna in Turin from November 3 to 6, 2016. Curator Annalisa Rosso emphasizes that designers are key figures in innovation, communication, and sustainability, but also deserve recognition in education, ethics, healthcare, and social justice. The festival aims to reignite global debate on design's responsibilities, as design shapes the future. Rosso references Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator of Architecture and Design and Director of Research and Development at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, who has highlighted the added value designers could bring if integrated into political leadership. Designers are urged to 'be brave' and support their ideas. The festival covers a wide range of design fields, from product to interior design, stressing that designers must embrace social commitment beyond commercial concerns, considering the impact of their projects on users' lives.
