Opera Gallery Opens New Hong Kong Space with Director Olivier Demblum

institutional · 2026-04-20

Opera Gallery has relocated its Hong Kong gallery to a three-floor, 5,500-square-foot space at The Galleria, 9 Queen's Road Central. The gallery, founded by Gilles Dyan in 1994, now operates 13 locations globally including New York, Miami, London, Paris, and Singapore. Hong Kong director Olivier Demblum, a former wealth manager and collector, emphasizes building long-term relationships with collectors through emotional sensitivity rather than trends. The inaugural exhibition features French-Chinese artist Chu Teh-Chun, whose work Opera has represented since 2000. Demblum notes that artists like Hermann Nitsch can be disruptive in Hong Kong but deserve inclusion in significant collections. The gallery's roster includes twentieth-century masters such as Bernard Buffet and Georges Mathieu alongside contemporary artists like Feng Xiao-Min and Andy Denzler. Public programming plans include solo shows, art fairs, and a collectors' club to foster exchange. Demblum's personal collection began with a bronze Laughing Buddha found in Périgord, France, and includes works by Arman and César. Opera Gallery's Miami location is currently showing 'Keith Haring, Art in Action' until December 19.
