OPERA Festival: Music and Nature on the Slopes of Mount Etna
OPERA Festival is a boutique festival held in late August in Milo, a small village on the slopes of Mount Etna at 750 meters altitude. The festival uses music as a tool for territorial enhancement and connection with the natural environment. Events have taken place under the 700-year-old Ilice di Carrinu holm oak, with performances by musician Generic Animal (Luca Galizia) and a dawn concert by Berlin-based performer Rachel Lyn among vineyards. The festival also includes afternoon talks and evening DJ sets in the woods. OPERA Festival is a project of artistic creation that aims to honor the land of Sicily. The name 'Opera' refers to the traditional Sicilian puppet theater and the dialect expression 'fare opera,' meaning to party or make noise. Sustainability is a key focus: solar panels donated by Plenitude power the entire civic library of Milo, and the Design & Territorio project involved students from the University of Catania, guided by Fare Studio, creating installations from fallen chestnut wood, including benches, tables, and stools assembled with local artisans. The festival draws inspiration from the volcano's energy and seeks new ways of inhabiting the territory.
