Openfabric's 'Into the Forest' Installations in Mantua Address Climate Change

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

During the first FAO World Forum on Urban Forest in November 2018, the Rotterdam-based landscape architecture and urban planning studio Openfabric installed three artist-designed installations in public spaces of Mantua, Italy. The project, titled 'Into the Forest,' aims to raise awareness about climate change effects. One installation, 'Fallen Forest,' located in the Chiostro di San Francesco, memorializes trees killed by a cyclone on November 2, 2018. It represents the tropicalization of climate and its consequences, depicting a post-apocalyptic landscape aesthetic of decline and discomfort that is close to reality.
