OpenArt 2024: Northern Europe's largest biennial opens in Örebro, Sweden

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

The ninth edition of OpenArt, the largest art biennial in Northern Europe, runs from June 15 to September 8, 2024, in the medieval city of Örebro, Sweden. Founded in 2015, the biennial features approximately 40 artists from 20 countries, with works installed in streets, parks, galleries, museums, and historic sites including the medieval castle. Notable past participants include Ai Weiwei, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Chiharu Shiota, and Cornelia Konrads. For 2024, Argentine artist Aaron Nachtailer (born 1986 in Patagonia) presents two large-scale environmental installations: "Exit/wall" and "Exit/clouds," created for Standsparken and the castle exterior. Nachtailer's works, inspired by nature and ritual, aim to foster harmony and sustainable dialogue. The artist began his career as a fashion and textile designer at the University of Palermo in Buenos Aires, later working with furrier Mariano Toledo and presenting in New York, Milan, Berlin, and Moscow. He experimented with glassblowing in Venice (2016), marble in Carrara, and wood in Luberon, France. In September 2024, Nachtailer will present the "Nomad" project in Buenos Aires, a series of site-specific immersive installations at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museo Larreta, and Centro Cultural Recoleta.
