ai-technology · 2026-04-22

On September 16, 2025, OpenAI unveiled Stargate UK, a collaboration with NVIDIA and Nscale aimed at bolstering the UK's sovereign computing capabilities. This project enables OpenAI's AI models to operate locally for essential public services and regulated sectors. It follows a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK Government from July 2025 to promote AI integration. Nscale is set to enhance its UK operations, including facilities in Cobalt Park. OpenAI intends to procure up to 8,000 GPUs in the first quarter of 2026, with plans to increase this to 31,000 GPUs. NVIDIA will supply cutting-edge GPUs, featuring Arm-designed chips. CEO Sam Altman emphasized the UK's leadership in AI, while OpenAI will also establish its Academy in the UK to upskill 7.5 million workers by 2030.
