Open Edition Gallery: Online Platform for Affordable Photographic Prints with Charitable Mission

digital · 2026-04-26

Open Edition Gallery (OEG) is a new online platform for selling open-edition photographic prints, launched by the Italian photography magazine Perimetro. It evolved from the successful charity initiative '100 Fotografi per Bergamo', which raised over €700,000 in 15 days for Bergamo's Papa Giovanni XXIII hospital during the COVID-19 lockdown. OEG aims to promote Italian photographers and reinforce photography's social identity. 10% of proceeds go to the NGO Liveinslums, which runs humanitarian projects in Italy and developing countries. For the first cycle, funds will support anti-racism projects. The platform also features monthly guest curators—including independent figures, photo editors, gallerists, and enthusiasts—who select 30 photographs from the site. Fundraising for Liveinslums runs until March 2021; afterward, Perimetro will open a 90-day call for new social projects addressing racism, with a maximum budget of €30,000 each, to be realized in Italy within 12 months. Eligible applicants include cultural associations, NGOs, foundations, and individual artists, photographers, architects, designers, writers, and musicians. Davide Monteleone, Editor at Large of OEG, noted the initiative has generated interest and some criticism, helping refine future activities. OEG maintains a commercial and promotional character alongside its fundraising spirit.
