Open Call for Artistic Director of 14th Seoul Mediacity Biennale
The Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA) has issued a call for applications for the role of Artistic Director for the 14th Seoul Mediacity Biennale, which will take place from August 16 to November 14, 2027. Established in 1996 with 'SEOUL in MEDIA,' this biennale stands as Korea's sole museum-led biennale and serves as SeMA's premier international exhibition. Interested candidates can apply between June 3 and July 15, 2026, with the announcement of the chosen individual or team expected around August 31, 2026. Compensation will be about KRW 60 million for individuals and KRW 80 million for teams, with responsibilities extending through December 2027. The venues include SeMA's Seosomun Branch, Seo-Seoul Museum of Art, Paik Ground SeMA, and sections of the Media Art Seoul Exhibition Platform. The project budget is estimated at KRW 2.5 billion, based on the previous edition. SeMA General Director Choi Eunju highlighted the biennale's significance in exploring the connections between art, technology, cities, and communities. Applicants should have a strong background in contemporary art and experience as a director or chief curator of a large-scale international art project within the last five years.
