Open Art Images: A Search Engine for High-Res Art Images

Open Art Images (OAI) is a search engine for high-definition art images, launched by web designer Viviana Paga with consultancy from Jandira Moreno do Nascimento (communications) and Anna Pirri Valentini (legal). Inspired by John Berger, the project aggregates images from all eras and regions that are either licensed for reuse or in the public domain, sourced from Wikimedia Commons open data. OAI does not duplicate existing content, does not profile users, and hosts no advertising. Users can search by author, title, or keyword, and each result provides details, source, license type, and a link to the high-resolution file. Contributions to the database are made via Wikimedia pages. The platform aims to democratize access to art images and foster interdisciplinary research on visual culture.
