Open-air exhibition in Venice celebrates 1600 years of tourism promotion

exhibition · 2026-04-27

To mark the 1600th anniversary of Venice's founding, ENIT (Italian National Tourism Agency) has launched an open-air exhibition titled "Promuovere la bellezza. Venezia 1600" in the city's historic center. The show, organized with the Municipality of Venice, Ca' Foscari University, and the Venice Pavilion, displays around fifty vintage posters on walls against a Venetian red background. Selected from ENIT's historical digital archive, the works include black-and-white photos from the 1930s, 1950s, and 1960s, posters from the 1930s to the 1960s, and covers of ENIT's historical magazines from the 1920s to the 1960s, divided into six thematic sections: Art and Architecture, Genre Scenes, Holidays and Festivals, Islands and Crafts, Cortina, Territory and Palladian Villas. Each poster features a QR code linking to the web-app tuaitalia.it for deeper exploration. ENIT President Giorgio Palmucci stated that the exhibition is part of a project begun in 2019 to valorize ENIT's centennial archival heritage, including prints, author lithographs, and historical memorabilia that testify to the evolution of Italian customs and society. The exhibition follows the recent appointment of Roberta Garibaldi as ENIT's new CEO.
