ONX Studio: New Mixed Reality Space in New York by Onassis and New Museum
In late spring 2020, ONX Studio, a new hub for artists, filmmakers, and designers engaged in Mixed Reality, will debut in New York. This initiative is backed by Onassis USA, the cultural division of the Onassis Foundation, alongside NEW INC, the cultural incubator established by Lisa Phillips and Karen Wong at the New Museum in 2013. Situated in the Onassis Gallery within Midtown Manhattan's Olympic Tower, the 370-square-meter facility was crafted by the architecture firm Leong Leong. ONX Studio aims to accelerate creative projects, providing a one-year residency for artists to create impactful public works. Leadership includes NEW INC director Stephanie Pereira, co-founder Karen Wong, Onassis USA's Vallejo Gantner, and Prodromos Tsiavos from the Onassis Foundation. Participants comprise former NEW INC members and notable artists. Lisa Phillips emphasized the lack of dedicated Mixed Reality spaces in New York, highlighting Onassis's mission to address this need. Additionally, ONX Studio will partner with the Onassis Lab in Athens, which offers professional development programs.
