Onsitestudio Wins Competition for Milan's New BEIC Library

Onsitestudio, led by architect Angelo Lunati, has won the international competition to design the new BEIC (European Library of Information and Culture) in Milan. The project was selected from 44 proposals by a jury chaired by Stefano Boeri, including Jocelyn Helen Froimovich Hes, Rosa Maiello, Jhionny Pellicciotta, and Cino Zucchi. The winning design features two trapezoidal nave-like volumes flanking a central collective space, with a steel and wood structure, an Imaginarium, an auditorium, a greenhouse-terrace, and automated underground storage. The library aims to combine physical book conservation with digital culture, emphasizing inclusivity, sustainability, and civic values. Construction is expected to be completed by 2026, with costs partly covered by the PNRR. The project is part of the larger Aria urban regeneration in the former Porta Vittoria station area. Other finalists include teams led by Hong Mungi, Zilli Paolo with Bonventura Alessandro and Miele Pasquale, Andrea Caputo, and Michele De Lucchi.
