Onnis Luque's 'DOMINIO' at Art Omi Exposes Architectural Extractivism
The Newmark Gallery at Art Omi is showcasing 'DOMINIO: An Unfinished Visual Archive of Architectural Extractivism,' a photography exhibit by Onnis Luque. Curated by Julia van den Hout, the exhibition highlights extraction sites across Mexico, including the Mezquital Valley, Chiapas Highlands, Sierra de las Mitras, and Yucatán Peninsula. Since 2014, Luque has documented these scarred landscapes, which he describes as 'industrial wounds' that reveal a blend of beauty and horror. The exhibit features large prints alongside physical elements like a stone pile resembling a mountain and a stack of cinderblocks. Luque, who resides in Mayan territory and studied at UNAM's School of Architecture, authored 'Architecture, State and Militarization' (2023). The show will be on display until May 31, 2026.
