Online Video Art Series Explores Simulation and Reality

The online film series 'True Fake: Troubling the Real in Artist’s Films' investigates the relationship between truth and falsehood, original and imitation. Part one, 'Simulations and (Hyper)Reality,' is now streaming and includes video essays, machinima, and video collages. Works include Harun Farocki's 'Parallel II' (2014) and 'Parallel III' (2014), which examine the limits of video game simulations; Peggy Ahwesh's 'The Falling Sky' (2017), a collage of 3D animated educational videos; Larry Achiampong and David Blandy's 'Finding Fanon 2' (2015), created in 'Grand Theft Auto 5' and exploring colonialism and identity; and Sondra Perry's 'It’s in the Game ’17' (2017), which critiques cultural appropriation by juxtaposing museum collections with digital avatars. The series is curated by Lukas Brasiskis and available on e-flux until February 22, 2021. The full series comprises five parts, each available for two weeks, concluding on April 20, 2021.
