Online-Only Art Sales Hit $423.9 Million in 2025, Up 8% Year-on-Year

In 2025, the combined online fine art sales from Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Phillips, Bonhams, and Artnet Auctions reached $423.9 million, which is an 8 percent increase from the year before. The number of lots sold online remained at 29,623, and the average price for each piece rose by 8.6 percent to $14,309. Compared to 2019, prior to the pandemic, online sales experienced a remarkable 270 percent jump. Christie’s also pointed out that in 2025, 63 percent of new buyers made their first purchase online, highlighting how effective the platform is for attracting fresh collectors.
