Online Conference Explores African Diaspora Art Exhibitions
An online conference titled 'Reshaping the Field: Arts of the African Diasporas on Display' is being organized by the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in collaboration with Afterall. Set for June 5, 2023, this event will explore the influence of exhibitions on the art histories of the African Diaspora and the historical and systemic production of Black identity in art and exhibition practices. Drawing inspiration from Bridget Cooks' critical work 'Exhibiting Blackness: African Americans and the American Art Museum,' the conference aims to collect oral histories, primary sources, and art historical research regarding African Diaspora art in both the UK and the US, focusing on exhibition histories. Nana Adusei-Poku, Associate Professor and Luma Scholar at Bard College's Center for Curatorial Studies, is leading the organization of the conference.
