One Hand Clapping exhibition at Guggenheim explores Sino-futurism through five new commissions
From May 4 to October 21, 2018, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York showcased One Hand Clapping. This exhibition highlighted five newly commissioned pieces that examined technology, globalization, and future outlooks through a Chinese perspective. Among the works was Cao Fei's Asia One (2018), which combined a video installation featuring automated warehouses and interviews with Jingdong staff. Wong Ping's animated video, Dear, can I give you a hand? (2018), addressed urban sexuality. Additionally, Samson Young's Possible Music #1 (2018) presented 'impossible instruments,' while Li Yilin's Monad (2018) offered videos and a VR experience with Jeremy Lin. Duan Jianyu contributed Spring River in the Flower Moon Night 1 (2017) along with sculptural elements, challenging perceptions of contemporary Chinese art.
